ABOUT THE RIDE AND GLIDE®
THE WORKOUT
The Original Ride and Glide® workout was developed in 2008 by Dana Cahill of F-Max Fitness in San Diego, CA. Utilizing the Gravity Training System (GTS)–a dynamic pulley apparatus that combines the fundamentals of pilates and strength training to encourage the body to move naturally and synergistically–in conjunction with schwinn spinner bikes, the Ride and Glide® workout is a fun, fast-paced, interval-based class that develops strength and boosts the heart rate simultaneously. After a thorough warm-up, the Ride and Glide instructors lead the class through intervals consisting of 90 seconds on the spin bikes followed by 2-3 strength training exercises on the GTS machines. The outcome is a complete, full-body workout burning anywhere from 500-700 calories in as little as 50 minutes.
THE SCENE
The Original Ride and Glide® is offered at F-Max Fitness in San Diego, CA. Known for smiling faces and positive attitudes, F-Max Fitness’ clients and staff enjoy a fully-equipped, brightly lit 1200 square foot studio. The Ride and Glide® interval class is held in F-Max Fitness’ exclusive Center of Gravity–a room consisting of mirrored walls, shiny wood floors, GTS machines, and spinner bikes. Adjacent to the Center of Gravity, F-Max Fitness houses a full-line of strength training and cardio equipment where clients are trained in a quiet, private environment.
THE INSPIRATION
Donato Malavarca, lifelong fitness enthusiast and founder of F-Max Fitness, began training friends and family out of his basement in New Jersey 20 years ago. Realizing he had found his calling, Malavarca began envisioning his idea of the perfect gym and spent nearly 10 years crafting its blueprint. In 2002, compelled to fulfill his purpose, Malavarca drove across the country to San Diego with merely a notebook of ideas and a trailer full of gym equipment to begin what was to become F-Max Fitness.
“I had over 33,000 lbs of equipment in that trailer,” laughs Malavarca. “I had no idea what I was doing, but at the same time I knew exactly what I wanted. I couldn’t wait to get there and put the puzzle pieces together.”
As it turns out, Malavarca’s puzzle had a few more pieces than he knew about. After quickly developing a loyal following of clientele, including children, the elderly, and everything in between, Malavarca found more than his vision propelling–he also met his future wife and inventor of the Ride and Glide® workout, Dana Cahill.
Today, Dana and Donato enjoy providing San Diego residents with a full schedule of classes and workshops, personal and group training sessions, individualized programming, and positive, influential fitness experiences.
