The FlexBand Bootcamp
Gemini Quest Fitness | Cleveland, OH
THE WORKOUT
The FlexBand Bootcamp is designed to increase muscular strength and flexibility through quick, explosive, ballistic movements. By attaching the FlexBands to free weights or manipulating them around the body for resistance, these gigantic rubber bands help to build kinetic energy, promote muscle growth, reduce the incidence of aches and pains, and increase aerobic capacity. Thus, the FlexBand Bootcamp Workout has been celebrated by clients looking to develop strength and flexibility, as well as those with low-back, neck, upper-back, shoulder, and knee pain. After a 10-minute full-body warm-up, the FlexBand Bootcamp instructor guides the class through a variety of stations–including free-weight exercises, cardio intervals, and resistance movements with the FlexBands–and ends with a 10-minute stretching and rejuvenation session. The end result is a full-body burn in less than an hour of work.
THE SCENE
The FlexBand Bootcamp Workout is located at Gemini Quest Personal Training and Fitness in Broadview Heights, OH. Rather than a large 500-member fitness center, Gemini Quest is a small personal training studio where clients are guided and motivated by professional trainers on every exercise move. Gemini Quest utilizes it’s small space and fully-equipped studio to provide a welcoming atmosphere and an enjoyable experience while not losing sight of results.
THE INSPIRATION
Patrick Erdman, owner and head fitness coach at Gemini Quest, suffered numerous concussions as a high school and semi-pro football player. It wasn’t until years later, however, after a long and successful career in marketing and sales, that Erdman’s head injuries would catch up to him. After undergoing brain surgery to remove excess fluid from his brain, which resulted in subsequent seizures, Erdman was told by his doctor to maintain a sedentary lifestyle–the type of life he wasn’t used to living.
“I became very depressed,” said Erdman. “I was always very active and had a lot of energy, and when I couldn’t exercise I started losing a lot of motivation and interest in things.”
After several months and a few extra pounds, Erdman came to the conclusion that he would rather fight and die than live the way he was perscribed. Not only did he begin exercising regularly again, but he also became a personal trainer–at the age of 50–and dedicated his renewed passion for fitness to helping people of all ages and capabilities achieve their goals.
“In a sense, fitness saved my life,” said Erdman. “I figured I would try and use my experiences and appreciation for it to help the lives of others as well.”
Over the past few years, Erdman has used his FlexBand Bootcamp to develop Gemini Quest Personal Training into a distinguished, private, and results-driven fitness studio. Unlike larger gyms, Gemini Quest is geared toward its personalized approach to fitness. Today, clients of the FlexBand Bootcamp include high school athletes, mothers, senior citizens, and even those rehabilitating from injury or disease. In fact, there is one client, striving to recover neurologic losses from surgery, that Erdman is especially proud of (see video).
