POLE DANCING FOR FITNESS

Fun Pole Fitness | San Diego, CA

THE WORKOUT
Pole Dancing for Fitness at Fun Pole Fitness in San Diego, CA was created for all women–regardless of age, size, or ability–who are bored with the gym and in need of something fun and exciting to get or stay fit. The workout, ideal for developing upper body strength while having fun at the same time, requires only stiletto heels, a pole, and a willingness to let yourself feel sexy. Following a 3-5 minute warm-up on the floor, participants of the workout cover all the Pole Dancing for Fitness fundamentals–including how to safely walk around in stilettos, the essentials of correct posture, and even how to protect the all-too-often neglected shoulder joints strained during various exercises. Then, as the music starts pumping, the exercisers are guided through a series of challenging, yet liberating spins and floor routines choreographed by the instructor. Movements such as hip and chest rolls, the Pony Walk, and body rolls require each participant to use both upper- and lower-body muscles while engaging the core throughout the entire process. Thus, one can expect to walk away with a full-body burn, an exclusive new dance routine, and a great sweat in as little as 60 minutes a session.

THE SCENE
Pole Dancing for Fitness is offered at Fun Pole Fitness–a distinguished, independent studio in the North Park area of San Diego. Behind closed curtains and with no spectators allowed, participants enjoy a private environment that encourages self-expression, laughter and progress—all-the-while learning new moves to great music. And, because each exerciser gets their own pole for the entire class, Fun Pole Fitness has a “leg up” on the other workouts in town that require participants to share stations.

THE INSPIRATION
Marie Davidson, owner of Fun Pole Fitness, has always been keen on fitness and nutrition. However, it wasn’t until eight years ago, after countless workouts and hours at the gym, that Marie decided she no longer wanted to attend fitness classes–she wanted to teach them.

“I found out first-hand that regular fitness classes can get really boring, really fast,” said Davidson. “I wanted something different – so instead of waiting around for someone to offer something better, I figured I would just create it myself.”

In no time at all, Davidson began teaching Cardio Kickboxing and Abs Blast, became certified by the American Council on Exercise as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor, and went on to instruct a variety of fitness curricula including beach boot camp, body pump, stretch, cycling, and even Gravity classes. However, it wasn’t until learning how to employ pole dancing as a springboard for better fitness that she found her niche.

“My passion has always been helping people reach their goals and working with individuals as they progress,” said Davidson. “So when I learned about Pole Dancing as a way to get and stay fit, I knew I had to try it–and when I did, I was hooked.”

After earning her certification through Pole Position Fitness in July of 2007, Marie opened Fun Pole Fitness in order to provide women with an alternative to the more traditional fitness classes available throughout the San Diego area. Today, Marie and her full-time staff of qualified trainers are available for instruction in multiple fitness-based programs including Intro to Pole, Pole Conditioning, Pole Tricks, Lap Dance and Burlesque, and more.
