In what looks more like a science lab than a gym, personal trainers—ahem, exercise practitioners—at Overload Fitness train each client in a clinically controlled, private, and distraction-free environment (no music, no mirrors, no sweaty, loud clients or instructors). In this atmosphere, along with a slightly modified version of what is often referred to as “SuperSlow” or “High-Intensity Training (HIT)” in the fitness community, you can expect to see—and feel—a difference in less than 60 minutes a week.
“Our exercise methods are low-force, low-impact, and biomechanically correct,” according to Joshua Trentine, founder/co-owner of Overload Fitness and a well respected, sought after authority in the High-Intensity community. “We guarantee that high-intensity strength training at Overload is like no other workout you have ever experienced.”
That’s because Josh’s HIT program, developed in response to a string of fitness studies done in the 1980’s, is no ordinary gym routine. Rather, his proprietary fitness equipment focuses on creating short-term, intense tension on the muscles; a process that trigger’s the body’s mechanism responsible for muscle growth. Or, in the words of fitness reporter Zachery Lewis with the Cleveland Plain Dealer: “Overload takes you to your limits. You perform a small set of tasks slowly, with control, for a short time, until your arms or legs simply fail.”
Overload’s HIT fitness program involves three principles: intensity, frequency and duration. As one of these increases, the other two must decrease. This means workouts are very intense but short in duration, followed by up to five days of rest and recovery.
The program, aimed specifically at working professionals with little time to spare at the gym, “is the safest, the most effective, and the most time efficient form of exercise,” according to Overload’s co-owner Jeffrey Tomaszewski, who joined Josh in 2004 while earning his Master’s degree in Exercise Science from Case Western Reserve University. “We begin with a free initial consultation that lasts about two hours to determine your specific goals and medical history. From there, we select specific exercises, methods of performance, and workout volume to guide your body toward your goals.”
Along with their core HIT exercise program, Overload offers a variety of nutrition counseling programs, physical therapy services, corporate workshops, and even specialized fitness routines such as a Golf Conditioning Program.
